Up to now, our BusinessQ releases put some requirements on IT experts – they needed to write SQL in order to create reports for end-users.
From our new release of BusinessQ 5 on, that is not longer required. We developed Business Model.
It is a meta model of reporting data. With it, we succeeded in our basic goal – to enable ANY BusinessQ user to define and make his own report from scratch, all in drag and drop interface, and without writing a single line of SQL code.
Once defined, a Business Model is a helpful layer between an end...

Danas smo u VL mogli čitati uglavnom o zdravstvenom odgoju i pripadajućim komentarima.
Tradicionalni grafovi u pravilu prikazuju neke kategorije (Dimenzije, poput Artikli, Kupci, Mjeseci) i pripadajuće vrijednosti (Mjere, poput Prodaja, Trošak, Količina). Za razliku...
There is an interesting project going on – A Farce with numbers.
Organizer asked students to locate resources that showed how graphs and charts can mislead. What is (I think) very educational is that he also asked them to look at color theory, word-image association, juxtaposition, and other aesthetic methods of influencing meaning and interpretation.
Unlike Forbes’ graph makeover contest in which I also participated here , thihs assignment is different and very interesting. The students were asked to take the data in...
Naomi Robbins on Forbes.com presented a graph and a table and asked readers to present alternatives. I choose to improve this graph:
The main reason is because there are far better ways to display this kind of information. I present 2 alternatives:
1) first of which is better to present part-in-the whole percentages of social media and quick comparison for b2b and b2c companies : (you can easily ask yourself – where did LinkedIn vanish for b2c?)
1) second of which is better to present actual percentages of social media and...
Yesterday I stumbled upon an article on storytellingwithdata.com. I quote the author:
“I was surprised reading this article how many stats were included and yet how few visuals. Only one graph, in fact:
My challenge to you is this: read the article and determine what data you find most interesting then visualize it. You can remake the above graph, or focus on bringing life to numbers included in the report by making them visual. ”
So I decided to look at the article and to pick up this visualization for...
Creating a nice looking, but valid report in the sense that it communicate business information with elegance and accuracy is not always an easy task.
The most important stuff is, of course, the data. It should be represented with the help of several visual design principles. They should present information to the readers in a manner that highlights what is most important. Every set of numbers has a message buried within, and it is task of report designer to present that message.
But in this blog I want to emphasize other components of good...
In general, all organizations require Business Intelligence at some level. When we founded our company – Qualia – we have no ERP system and in the beginning we have no transactions. But very soon, I started to ask myself typical questions like “What is in my sales pipeline and what is the percent of success rate”, “What is the average invoice amount and what can I expect if trend continues?” and so on… The point is, even the smallest companies need some form of intelligent report or data...
